Thursday, 7th February, 2008: The IEDR welcomes the introduction of IPv6 root nameserver addresses by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). IPv6 transition is a critical step in ensuring the resilience, expansion and future development of the internet.
The IEDR has closely followed IPv6 progress and has been at the forefront of its development in Ireland through its membership of the Irish IPv6 Task Force (http://www.ipv6.ie). In preparation for the transition to IPv6 addressing, the IEDR added dot-ie IPv6 nameserver addresses to the root zone in September 2004. As a result dot-ie domain name lookups using both the current (IPv4) and next generation (IPv6) internet protocols have been available since then.
